: \. {1 {) }+ _3 @. b! J6 JThe New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. ) G6 N4 {# i5 T/ ]
% f% v( p( X- t. O% WKey tasks:
) A, V$ D; i, j1 a0 r8 F; H • Undertake research and analysis.- E0 ~! O, `7 y+ v2 y( E& `) e+ S
• Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.) |: y X, q/ @! J1 f% E
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.9 w5 U8 o; ^+ [5 Z# v5 \
• Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
3 V3 w0 g& a' s& j; A" t! c% A • Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
9 s9 x7 B' V: y' O) s$ [, j( t • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.$ u( y2 g. E" @
• Translation and interpretation skills.
$ ]& o, s" }% O • Relevant tertiary qualification4 K# i5 F# L. ^/ R( ~ M
• Research and analytical skills.& b: H) g" T1 s4 E7 T; t
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload. 6 |& z6 Z( k! [) T) R. S
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.

• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.! X1 w) q E( C! {
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.9 C l: p5 p* b! T, h
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).# f+ }: m9 @0 U! S
• Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
