' ]5 l- m7 M6 R7 k1 h5 U$ R0 ]The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. 5 t3 g& W, _! L! o& g
' v9 q( V) A4 \* Z" BKey tasks:
* b" @) r! Q& B3 n/ o( b* M • Undertake research and analysis.
$ F. ?* x% [% W8 R( k • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.7 j' d' k5 L. }- F Q$ \ ~# T
• Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.% j; a$ ~2 c6 x* D- a8 ]% ?" H: q
• Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.) L; Z3 I& z, {9 c$ A$ W" a! W, l
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.. h8 d& z" I* |6 E$ q7 K' V
• Translate official correspondence.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:/ t+ C" K) x) k
• High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
, Z) y% B/ B# A+ b2 z: \( {: y c& P • Translation and interpretation skills.
2 X6 P; Z3 I, B( H2 C* W* ^ • Relevant tertiary qualification
* `& L0 |/ ]: g' L4 S$ E • Research and analytical skills.
" n2 t, K' R& \: s3 w* i8 i i • Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
; _, C$ n- `* c, j, U+ W) {# I • Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.
0 p3 u8 p# p6 t2 O • Flexibility and adaptability.$ J% U6 k0 W+ i. v& [; @9 f& B
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
1 c) @+ b8 t* c/ q • Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.
! H, L5 a9 T4 a6 u+ z% k6 s • Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).5 L: [% _* Z! y' H
• Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
