* I+ o) C: ]+ ~1 N' S; N+ eThe New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China. - `# C- c l% C' ^+ U2 x- d

Key tasks:
5 l" E, E/ f; w$ x; x • Undertake research and analysis.
$ }) t0 K4 P- B4 F' n • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
3 }7 O4 Z; [% O- p9 Y • Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
9 I( Q, M; W3 n, S1 E" A • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials. {: |- ~& I! L2 h( z. s& o! J. K
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
# F9 _! a' I6 i • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
* W* V7 R7 A- L/ I8 e# W • Translation and interpretation skills.
: `* i A5 @* Q. W r • Relevant tertiary qualification
- M G; ]+ s2 {; S" H' p; J1 l3 ^$ { • Research and analytical skills.
! M& B# }) i7 B8 L • Well organised, able to manage a large workload. 6 }4 z- L# s. f5 [* l4 x
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.
- Q1 y! v4 L' ]8 y0 f; J • Flexibility and adaptability.7 t Y k* F+ T* t
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.: v( C* G8 A) V
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.5 P' K# T: l8 I% f! a/ ?6 F$ m
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
$ q/ O& F0 Q5 K9 |) T. Q • Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
