It is my privilege to convey congratulations from the People of Iceland to the Chinese government, the City of Shanghai, and the Expo Organizing Bureau on their preparations for what will undoubtedly be the largest and most spectacular world exposition ever held.
很荣幸向中国政府、上海市政府，以及世博会的组织者带来冰岛的祝贺。此次上海世博会无疑将会成为有史以来最大规模，最精彩的一次世博会。
It is a venue when nations of the world come together in peace, to promote culture, science and commerce. The theme "Better City, Better Life" is especially relevant when the world needs to solve the problem of climate change, and pressing issues that come with increased urbanization. During the last 50 years, my country has succeeded in moving from being over 80 percent dependent on oil and coal to become a leader in clean energy utilization with 100 percent of our electricity and urban heating provided by clean energy resources. Iceland hopes to contribute to a successful world expo by focusing our participation on renewable energy solutions and innovations. I am indeed looking forward to arrive in Shanghai to attend this great world event, and be with you on Iceland Expo Day on 11th of September.
在此次世博会上，来自世界各地的国家欢聚一堂，和平共处，推广文化、科学，促进经济。“城市让生活更美好”这一主题尤其与当今世界面临的问题紧密联系，比如气候变化和城市扩张带来的难题。50年前，冰岛百分之八十以上的发电和供暖依靠石油和煤炭。现在冰岛已经成为使用清洁能源的先驱。冰岛百分之百的电力和城市供暖都是由清洁能源提供的。冰岛希望对成功地举办此次世博会贡献一份力量，愿意展示我们在可循环能源利用方面的创新技术。我非常期待访问上海并亲临这一盛会。我将和你们一起参加九月十一日的“冰岛日”。

Iceland will warmly welcome all visitors to our pavilion, where we showcase the magnificent natural beauty of our country, and how through respect of nature and innovation, Iceland utilizes green energy to sustain healthy living conditions for the people. Iceland is a country of contrasts, home to Europe's largest glacier but also numerous geothermal hot springs such as the world famous Geysir. We intend to bring to Shanghai samples of the best in Icelandic culture, science and commerce. We will create a forum on Icelandic renewable energy solutions, tourism in Iceland and the North Atlantic, and Exhibition of Icelandic Design and lively performance from our gifted musician Emiliana Torrini. These will be a few of the events offered by Iceland and we encourage you all to visit the Pavilion of Iceland, where you will indeed be warmly welcomed.
