The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

Key tasks:
: q2 K4 [8 y) ~ • Undertake research and analysis.; z8 l* z. U, c# h; z) T$ `
• Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
; o5 H& b; }3 G5 g7 l8 X • Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
% b) F" Q: b: h • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials./ b' }, D7 ]9 T$ P
• Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.

The Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
6 u& a$ ]/ N' Y8 ]6 x • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
- R: t' G9 C' Q/ s! ] • Translation and interpretation skills.
3 w1 e4 `( ~; V" { • Relevant tertiary qualification
3 z* r4 r. n9 ^7 _4 k! a" A: M • Research and analytical skills.) j! {! Z6 o _$ t
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload. & e1 v6 d) z4 s* x
• Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks. , j1 G i) ]$ N1 }
• Flexibility and adaptability.# R T. [ D* u- W4 g) h
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.3 U' I+ o- N2 \5 y. |0 c
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.0 t; i( u* u" b8 [2 b) n3 d0 H: w' w
• Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
