The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team.  The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

Key tasks:
        •        Undertake research and analysis.
        •        Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
+ K7 ?4 n. Y% S& Q5 Y/ B0 d! n9 J( {: C        •        Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
: m4 ?6 g) ?" Q- `7 M3 \        •        Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
        •        Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.
+ e7 @, a# X0 g        •        Translate official correspondence.

( t7 n8 \' \  Q1 x: P8 r( k& _9 BThe Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
$ D* J/ D7 |7 W+ N; K        •        High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
        •        Translation and interpretation skills.
        •        Relevant tertiary qualification
' E' L5 X( ~5 }/ M4 L3 @        •        Research and analytical skills.
        •        Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
        •        Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.
        •        Flexibility and adaptability.
        •        Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
        •        Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.
4 M' @" K' R1 R9 S9 ?, y5 ?        •        Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
! J) [' I- u: i+ p& |        •        Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
