The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team. The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

Key tasks:7 w# _' J1 u$ \& e8 S' I
• Undertake research and analysis.
" v/ C5 O9 I( ?& f' z* I' S; v' H6 V/ h • Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
6 S3 j) M1 o# I4 d4 X • Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
! y3 l' k4 L7 B9 s' X# c8 a • Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
" @& m7 H0 V' e0 B4 l) {9 f7 t) d • Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.
# U% ~1 e/ \9 J n( z( \9 _ • Translate official correspondence.

) p; R; x. Z, H; }5 H OThe Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
; |% N5 P1 }+ u • High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English./ q0 e9 o# i( F" E% i5 n8 m# r+ g+ [1 d
• Translation and interpretation skills." I& Q6 L @: m( P8 q
• Relevant tertiary qualification
* G* z2 P2 e. E B • Research and analytical skills.! m1 \! @0 z5 i- o1 s" |
• Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
7 t+ T/ t$ k2 Y3 \5 r- L • Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.

& {! a2 s; o8 w$ ~* R: T • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.( R$ X% |8 s; ]5 M3 o/ I
• Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.
