NEW ZEALAND EMBASSY, BEIJING

The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as policy adviser/interpreter in the trade & economic team.  The focus of this position is on supporting New Zealand’s trade and economic relationship with China.

Key tasks:
        •        Undertake research and analysis.
" v/ C5 O9 I( ?& f' z* I' S; v' H6 V/ h        •        Provide policy advice and reporting on trade/economic developments in China.
6 S3 j) M1 o# I4 d4 X        •        Build up a network of contacts in relevant Chinese agencies and institutions.
! y3 l' k4 L7 B9 s' X# c8 a        •        Assist with arranging visit programmes and meetings for New Zealand ministers and officials.
" @& m7 H0 V' e0 B4 l) {9 f7 t) d        •        Provide accurate interpretation (Chinese/English and English/Chinese) at official meetings.
# U% ~1 e/ \9 J  n( z( \9 _        •        Translate official correspondence.

) p; R; x. Z, H; }5 H  OThe Embassy is looking for the following skills and capabilities:
; |% N5 P1 }+ u        •        High degree of oral and written proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
        •        Translation and interpretation skills.
        •        Relevant tertiary qualification
* G* z2 P2 e. E  B        •        Research and analytical skills.
        •        Well organised, able to manage a large workload.
7 t+ T/ t$ k2 Y3 \5 r- L        •        Strong initiative, a problem solving mentality, and ability to work independently on tasks.
; R3 o) |: {8 d8 L: `8 M$ y        •        Flexibility and adaptability.
& {! a2 s; o8 w$ ~* R: T        •        Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with other team members.
        •        Familiarity with the working environment in China, including government systems.
+ X! \( i4 L3 B$ L9 o6 \        •        Developed computer skills (particularly MS Office, internet research capability).
        •        Knowledge or experience of New Zealand an advantage.
